Why I chose to become a CYCP

What genuinely excites me about the Child and Youth Care Practitioner (CYCP) field is the opportunity to build meaningful connections with those I work with and meet and being able to watch them grow into their fullest potential. I believe in looking beyond the behaviours in front of me, developing an understanding of what is truly happening in a youth's life, and working together to find a different outcome. I am a strong advocate for those I work with and know, aiming not just to help, but to foster deep understanding.

Through my work as a CYCP, I hope to help create a safe space where those I work with can grow and learn. I aspire for the children and youth I work with to be able to build self-confidence. My goal is to be an adult who matches my words with actions and who will always advocate for those I come across, providing consistent and reliable support.

My decision to pursue a career in CYCP was significantly influenced by individual experiences. Growing up, my family faced mental health challenges, allowing me to see firsthand the profound effects that a dedicated CYCP can have. Witnessing this impact ignited my desire to contribute to this field and support others as I was supported.
